We help OTs give ABILITY back to clients with vision impairment
Continuing Education Courses on Vision Impairment from Adult Acquired Brain Injury
Thank you for visiting visABILITIES to find quality, in-depth continuing education on visual processing impairment from adult acquired brain injury. We are no longer offering the Part 1 and Part 2 workshops on-site at facilities.
After 35 years of educating clinicians in person, I decided to use my 20 years of academic online teaching experience to deliver the Part 1 and 2 course content using an easy-to-use online learning platform.
Our new on-demand courses enable you to:
- Get the information you need quickly, at the instruction level you need.
- Schedule your learning at a time that is convenient to you
- Receive high quality education regardless of where you live in the world
- Consolidate your learning with supplemental materials and self-assessment quizzes
- Train your staff using a closed course that includes a live follow up Q&A meeting to reinforce their learning.
High quality courses take time to develop so please be patient as I add new courses to the platform. Over the coming months, I will be developing courses to provide content on two instructional levels:
- Overview courses for learners less familiar with vision impairment from adult acquired brain injury and want to learn the basics.
- Advanced courses for learners who work with clients with vision impairment and want to hone their expertise in a specific type of vision impairment.
I am very excited to be taking on this project. It enables me to share my knowledge and help prepare OTs everywhere to address vision impairment in their adult clients with acquired brain injury. Every client deserves to use their vision to the best of their ability to live an independent and productive life after brain injury.
Finally, I wanted to freely share selected content from my long clinical and teaching careers. I have created a free introductory course. It is located on the Courses Page and provides 1.5 hours of continuing education. If you have never taken a course from me, this will introduce you to my approach to evaluation and intervention. Other free offerings are located under the Free Resources Tab. The biVABA videos, forms and manual are also available as free downloads under the biVABA Tab. I revised and updated the manual and the forms in 2023. It should now be easier to incorporate the forms into EMR. The manual contains updated information on how to administer, interpret and document your findings and provide intervention. The videos of my late mother-in-law, Jeanne, who patiently participated in hours of taping to demonstrate how to give the assessments are now available on a platform that allows you to access them more easily. She would be very pleased to know that you are using them to help educate yourself and others.
